PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This unit standard is for persons required to assess the emergency situation and providing basic Life Support and basic First Aid in order to stabilise patients prior to transfer to the emergency services.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  Demonstrate an understanding of elementary anatomy and physiology
  Assess an emergency situation
  Apply First Aid procedures to the life-threatening situation

PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This Unit Standard will be useful for employees to enable them to provide primary emergency care (first aid) in response to an occupational risk induced or any health emergency in their specific workplaces.

Qualifying learners are able to:
  Demonstrate the principles of primary emergency care.
  Assess and control a single injury emergency scene in the workplace.
  Demonstrate primary emergency life support for adults, children and infants.
  Explain and manage shock.
  Carry out secondary assessment of the sick or injured person and provide appropriate primary       emergency care at the scene.

PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This unit standard is to enable the first responder to react to emergencies at an advanced first aid level, until the arrival of more professional emergency personnel.

Qualifying learners will be capable of:
  Explaining the principles of advanced first aid in emergencies.
  Demonstrating an advanced level of preparedness to deal with sudden illness or emergency.
  Assessing and managing an emergency scene/disaster.
  Describing the anatomy and explaining the physiology of the human body systems in terms of   injury or sudden illness.

This unit standard reflects the skills, knowledge and values required to remove and replace off-the-road (OTR) wheels and tyres. Learners credited with this unit standard are able to:
Remove wheels from OTR machines/equipment and tyres from wheels.

Apply knowledge of maintenance requirements for OTR tyres.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE
Off-the-road (OTR) machines/equipment includes but is not limited to military applications, cranes, earthmoving equipment and mining equipment.

'Wheel' refers to the entire wheel assembly, including but not limited to components such as rims, inner and outer flanges, bead seat band and lock rings but excludes the tyre.

The context will determine whether the entire wheel and tyre assembly will be removed and replaced, or whether the wheel will remain secured to the machine/equipment hub, while only the tyre is removed and replaced. The learner must be assessed in both of these contexts in order to meet the requirements of this unit standard.
Tyre types include tubeless, tubed type, crossply and radial.
The individual will work as a member of a team throughout the process of removing and refitting tyres and wheels.
The learner is not required to operate specialised tyre handling machines.
