Course Overview

This course is designed for individuals who work at heights where there is a risk of injury from falls. It equips learners with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to use fall arrest systems safely under the supervision of a qualified supervisor. Emphasis is placed on understanding and applying safe work procedures and legal compliance.

Entry Requirements

  • Communication at ABET Level 3 or equivalent

  • Mathematical Literacy at ABET Level 3 or equivalent

  • Must be medically fit and in possession of a valid medical certificate (as per SABS 0333:2 Annex A)

  • Explain the use and limitations of fall arrest equipment and fall arrest plans

  • Inspect, assemble, and store fall arrest equipment correctly

  • Select appropriate and secure anchor points

  • Use fall arrest systems with a double lanyard safely

  • Use pre-installed vertical and horizontal life-lines

  • Identify and reduce risks while awaiting rescue

  • Understand relevant health and safety legislation related to working at height

  • Apply correct personal protective equipment (PPE) and hardware inspection techniques
